Beatrice primed to host 15th annual Spring Nationals

BEATRICE, Neb. (March 12) – All systems are go for this weekend’s Spring Nationals.

The March 13-15 special at Beatrice Speedway sports three main events for IMCA Modifieds, which double as a Blood, Sweat and Tears Series opening tripleheader. Features are also on tap for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts.

Early entries included more than 80 Modifieds who will vie for national, Central Region and Smiley’s Racing Products state points during the 15th annual event.

An open practice runs from 5:30-9 p.m. Thursday for all classes. Mandatory tech inspection begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, when racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

First heat races will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Modified features pay $1,000 to win on Friday, $1,500 to win on Saturday and $2,000 to win on Sunday, making all three events qualifiers for the 2008 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. All Modified drivers are guaranteed $75 a day in tow money.

Saturday’s Northern SportMod feature pays $500 to win. The Hobby Stock feature on Sunday also pays $500 to win. Top prize in Sunday’s Sport Compact main event is $200.

“Promoter Toby Kruse and his staff will do everything they can to run events as scheduled and avoid canceling any of the three shows,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Fortunately, there are a number of different rescheduling options if one program is rained out, or if it looks like the weather is going to be too wet or too cold to race.”

In a worse case scenario, should the entire special fall to weather, Spring Nationals would not be rescheduled. The Frost Fest at Elmwood Park Speedway in Norton, Kan., is March 22, the day before Easter, and the Ice Breaker Challenge at Eagle Raceway is March 29-30.

Three IMCA divisions return to Sherman County Speedway

GOODLAND, Kan. (March 7) – Three IMCA divisions are back on the track this year at Sherman County Speedway.
Sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks all return to Goodland after absences of a decade or more. Opening night is set for April 19, with point races for each class scheduled through the Sept. 26-27 Flatlanders’ Fall Classic.
“This will be a good place for more drivers to race for IMCA points, especially the last weekend of the season when they’re hoping to move up a place or two in national or regional standings,” noted Robert Lamb, president of the Sherman County Stock Car Racing Association.
Modified points earned at Sherman County apply in IMCA’s Central Region, Stock Car and Hobby Stock points in the Jet Racing Northern Region for their respective divisions.
“Goodland has an established program and helps bridge the geographical gap between sanctioned tracks in eastern Colorado and central Kansas,” IMCA Vice President of Operations This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. said.
New catch fencing and barriers will be installed before the first event. Anticipating increased car counts and grand stand attendance throughout the season, Lamb also expects good numbers of competitors and fans to be on hand when the Blood, Sweat and Tears Series for Modifieds comes to town.
The regular July 5 show will not be held should the town’s Independence Day celebration be rained out and rescheduled; rain date for the Flatlander is Sept. 28.
IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks last ran at Goodland in 1996, the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in 1997 and the IMCA Modifieds in 1999.

Ice Breaker Day 3

Abilene, Tx. (Feb 24th, 2008) Once again race teams and fans were greeted by Chamber of Commerce weather as warm, sunny skies fell upon Abilene Speedway for the final day of the Icebreaker weekend. Of course the beautiful weather quickly dried up the track surface making for a whole new ball game setting up cars for the afternoon show.

Noteboom Knows Way to Winners Circle

Capitolizing on problems by early leader Tim Clonch, Iowa's Jay Noteboom jumped on the opportunity and grabbed his second win of the weekend. Noteboom, who won Friday night was sidelined early Saturday with tire problems, but would head back to the Midwest a two-time Icebreaker winner.

On the first try for a start, Clonch out-gunned Noteboom for lead into turn 1 Scotty Brown made a big run going into turn 3, but got a little sideways. Barry Maupin got into the rear tire of Brown sending him bouncing up on two wheels, landing on Maupins nose, before ending up on his lid. Several other cars were involved or spun to miss the melee, but no one was injured in the multi-car crash.
